THE "FREENY PATENT" STRIKES YET

THE "FREENY PATENT" STRIKES YET AGAIN!

According to Business Wire, E-Data Corporation announced on Feb. 24, 2004 that it has commenced litigation and is seeking an injunction against Getty Images and Corbis in both the Netherlands (Docket: KG 04/88 and KG 04/140) and the United Kingdom (Docket: Pat04007 and Pat04008) for infringing upon its European patent EP 0 195 098 B-1 (U.S. counterpart patent here), more commonly known as "the Freeny patent."

In a broad sense, the Freeny Patent appears to cover secure electronic commerce.  E-Data has previously settled similar litigation with music download services in Europe.

The Freeny Patent was prosecuted and obtained by Dunlap Codding & Roger's Senior Partner Charles A. "Skip" Codding.
